For my video piece on Glendower B&B I would like to include a voice over to use when showing images and footage of the house, rooms, and the garden. This is just to showcase the entire house to the viewers so they get a good idea of what to expect before booking rooms there. I will sit down with the owner and have an interview with him to get a bit of history on the house, a little information about him to give people watching a more friendly feeling when watching. I can then cut out the footage from the interview and use it for voice overs if he speaks about something relevant to the house or the local area. For example within the interview he speaks about what rooms they have and what they feature, I can show this in the video along side him speaking it, giving it a more free flowing video, rather than having it all separated, this can make the transitions between shots a lot more smooth.
After looking at some techniques on what to use for my video, I decided it would be a good idea to have the owner walk around the house talking about each of the rooms and any recent decorating that they have done, they also own a private limo that they use for transport and weddings. So as well as him talking about it in the interview and using that as a voice over any footage, I could film him driving his limo, maybe having a bit of talking whilst he is driving to give us a bit of information, and just generally have footage of him driving rather than having him sitting down talking. This will also give me a bit more freedom with my filming and a lot more footage to use in my edit, as it always to have a lot more footage than you need so there’s more flexibility with the editing.
Camera Angles/Shots
- Extreme Close ups
- Wide Shots
For my interview I was thinking of having it outside (depending on the weather) so I can have the whole house in shot and also the limo in the background to give it a more open feel to the interview. As I am considering having my interview outside, I will need to take into account any disturbances that could occur, such as the wind interfering with my mic and distorting what Steve is saying, and will be completely useless in my edit. Another thing that could affect my interview is the road, as the house is next to a road, the traffic could cause disturbing background noise in the interview and could potentially be picked up by the mic. If everything does not go as well as I hoped, my next option is to hold it in the main hall. Questions that I could possibly ask Steve are things such as, why he decided to start his own B&B, a bit of history of the house, any redecorating or construction that he has done to the place, if he has any pictures of what it looked before he made it into a B&B I could show those in my video (considering that he gives me permission to do so) as this will be a good way of showing the care that he puts into his B&B.
