Example Research

I have looked into a few examples of some other B&B’s promotional videos to get an idea of the codes and conventions that apply to this genre of informational videos. One of the examples that I looked a was mostly made of out of focus pans of the rooms and then gains focus, transitioning between shots with fades having mostly extreme close ups of flowers, food, and lights.

They included a calm song to play over the top of the shots to give it a more soothing vibe. I thought that the visual techniques that they used made the place look that extra bit more pleasing, but having just used these shots, and not really showcasing the house completely to give viewers a better idea of the place. I would like to duplicate these visual techniques for my video, but not highly depend on only them. Although the video may have not been solely made to give information about the place, I think that it is a key part of the video and I will apply this to mine as it promotes the B&B further.

This next one, I would say is poorly made as the camera work is shaky and completely ruins the calm feel of the video. They also switch from camera shots moving across the room, to a still picture of the room, this doesn't feel as smooth as it could be as the pictures are in a different light to the film so it makes it more noticeable. I also think that just showing a bunch of pictures of the place doesn't justify the capabilities of having a promo video, as this basically makes it a slideshow of images. There is so much you can feature in a video, and just having a slide show of pictures makes this pointless. I think the best way to showcase the house without showing a bunch of pictures is to have filmed it yourself, as this shows your filming skills.
