Evaluation

Overall I think that my project to create a promo video for Steve garner the owner of Glendower bed and breakfast was very successful. I managed my time and tasks well making sure to get them done as soon as possible and to a good standard. There was a lot of work to do for my blog but I managed to do it well. I really enjoyed the filming days I had, as they were very interesting to explore filming on something that I had not done or come across before. This is great for developing my skills and for putting in my portfolio as something I have done and created because it always great to explore more and new skills to give you a better range of experience, and I have gained a lot of new information and experience to better my skills for the future. It was fun to conduct an interview with my client as this was another technique that I had not done before but doing it very exciting to experiment with and gain experience from it. Although I was behind with some work as I had a day off ill, I still managed to catch up quickly and get my work done.

The technical side to my project was very different as we had to create a blog to put our work on instead of having it all in paper form to hand in. I enjoyed using blogger to upload our work as it gave it a much more professional look to our work, it also gave us a lot more freedom with it as we were able to go back and edit what was already on there and alter anything that had changed, I did this a few times as I found a few mistakes on there and had thought of some other information that I wanted to include, as this was all on my blog it saved having to retype something then print it out all again to put into a production file. New technical qualities that I learnt in my project was filming an interview, we had a lecture regarding techniques to use when filming an interview which helped a lot as when it came to doing the interview I knew all the techniques such as where to position the camera and the type of angles and shots that are best suited for your interview, and also how to set up the radio mic, such as what settings to have it on when plugged into the camera and where to have it on the person being interviewed. The editing side of my project was different to other assignments that I have had before as previous ones I had edited my clips to music, but for this project I had to edit it differently, incorporating an interview with various shots of the Bed and Breakfast to a light background music whilst having a gradual and smooth transition of pans and shots of the different variety of rooms in the house.

Aesthetic qualities of my project final edit that I enjoyed was the difference of pace that I had edited it too, the shots I had filmed were very slow and calm, having all the same eye level wide shot angles that I had. The edit was pieced together having these shots mixed in with the interview that I conducted, using some of the audio from the interview as a voiceover, to be able to have shots of the house and the interview mixed into one. I included information and text on the screen to make it not seem as bland, this also helps with the viewer being able to jot this information down when presented on the screen.

I am happy with my edit and think that it fits the criteria and conventions of similar promotional videos like it, I enjoyed every aspect of the project and was a great chance to work completely independently and in a real life situation, going out there and finding a client and asking them what they want and how you’re going to do things. It was a really good experience working for a client to get a video done for them. There are areas in my edit that I could improve on such as perhaps including some testimonials from some guests to get their opinion on the place and service, but overall I think it suits my aims and target audience.
